What’s Happening at CCHS
BLACK HISTORY MONTH PROGRAM
We presented our Black History Month program on Thursday, February 29 to a full house of Middle and High School scholars, our teachers and staff, and our families. A full article about the event is in our Spring Newsletter on page 5. Read it here.
We matter
For Black History Month, our High School scholars presented a compelling project entitled, “We Matter.” The project brings focus to senseless police brutality and racially motivated crimes.
NYIT Program
CCMS/CCHS is off to another great year with our partnership with the New York Institute of Technology College. The 2023 school year brings more promising success to our CCMS/CCHS Scholars. During Meet the Teacher Night on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, Challenge hosted a comprehensive introductory program to officially induct our new and returning NYIT Step Initiative Scholars. The evening was centered around three initiatives.
NYIT STEP - The Science Technology Entry Program(STEP) is a New York State-funded program that has partnered with Challenge Charter School to provide students with:
STEM Enrichment Research projects
Free Tutoring in all Core Subjects; Math, Science, English, History, and Regents Exam Preparation.
Participation in NYS STEP Statewide conferences
College and Career Preparation: PSAT preparation, Resume Writing, College Financial Aid( How to fill out FASFA), Scholarship searches, College Application Preparation, STEP College Fair
New York Tech’s 4+1 Dergrees Program - Obtain both undergraduate and graduate degrees in 5 years.
Degree programs in Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English, and Social Studies are tied to a dual degree in the field of Engineering
Take 3-5 graduate education courses in your junior and senior years as electives
Take the remaining courses in one year after undergrad to get your master's degree
Leads to New York State certification in grades 7-12
Paid Peer Tutoring - CCHS upperclassmen who are in good academic standard will be provided the opportunity to peer tutor during the school day.
CCHS Scholars will be provided a peer tutoring period in their individual schedules and assigned as an apprentice in a CCMS Humanities or Math classroom
CCHS Scholars will work intensively with CCMS Scholars on skill building and understanding of concepts
CCMS Staff will oversee the engagement process
Compensation for the peer tutors will be provided through our NYIT STEP Initiative Partners

CCHS Sports
Our scholars participate in a number of sports throughout the school year in our growing athletic program. Coming in Spring 2024 - Girls Volleyball!
