The Rev. Dr. Les Mullings is our Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). It was his tireless vision to develop and create Challenge Preparatory Charter School to serve the needs of the Far Rockaway community. As Founder, he led the school through every stage of our development. As Lead Applicant he chaired the Planning Team and navigated the team through the extensive charter process,

In 2010, Dr. Mullings' dream became a reality as Challenge Preparatory Charter School welcomed its first Kindergarten and 1st grade students. As the founding Board Chair, he guided the school through its critical early development and startup phase, ensuring it was ready to open its doors.

Over the next decade, Dr. Mullings' leadership only grew stronger. As CEO, he oversaw all aspects of the school's operations, crafting budgets and staffing plans to continually elevate the educational experience. Through his tireless efforts, Challenge Prep expanded to multiple campuses, providing hundreds of students with life-changing opportunities.

But Dr. Mullings' impact extended far beyond the classroom. When Hurricane Sandy devastated the Rockaways, he sprung into action, founding "Project Sandy" to coordinate the community's recovery efforts. Under his leadership, the school distributed millions in supplies and served 78,000 hot meals to families in need.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mullings has been recognized for his unwavering commitment to the people of Far Rockaway. He has received numerous honors and awards, including from the NAACP, the U.S. Congress, and the New York City government. His influence has reached the highest levels, as he has advised mayors, governors, and other officials on issues facing the community.

Today, as Challenge Prep prepares to celebrate its 15th anniversary, Dr. Mullings' legacy continues to shape the school and the community it serves. With his vision, passion, and tireless dedication, he has built an institution that stands as a beacon of hope, preparing the next generation of leaders to transform the future of Far Rockaway.
